Understanding Everyday Emotions vs. Clinical Depression

Understanding Everyday Emotions vs. Clinical Depression

Is it normal to feel sad? Yes. However, when does it become something more?

For individuals with Spina Bifida, it can sometimes be harder to tell the difference between everyday emotions and clinical depression. In fact, 25% to 45% of adults with Spina Bifida experience depressive symptoms, making awareness especially important.

  • Occasional sadness is normal and usually passes
  • Clinical depression lasts longer and affects daily life
  • It may impact sleep, appetite, energy, and focus
  • It can make it harder to enjoy things you once loved

Depression is not just a bad day. It is a medical condition that deserves attention and care.

If something feels off, it is okay to ask for help.
