Update: MedicareĀ DMEĀ Supplier Moratorium
We want to share a brief update regarding a recent six-month Medicare moratorium affecting certain Durable Medical Equipment (DME) suppliers.
At this time, the moratorium prevents new DME suppliers from enrolling in the Medicare system. For most individuals, this should not impact current services or supplies if you are already receiving equipment from an existing Medicare-enrolled supplier. The policy was implemented by Medicare primarily as a measure to help prevent fraud within the DME system.
It is important to note that this moratorium does not apply to all types of DME. If a supplier is affected and can no longer provide a specific item, individuals may need to transition to another Medicare-enrolled supplier. Many DME companies offer Navigator or patient support programs that help match patients with in-network suppliers when a transition is needed.
As always, policies and guidance can evolve quickly. SBANYS will continue monitoring this situation and share updates with the community as more information becomes available. If you have questions about how this may affect your equipment or supplies, we encourage you to contact your current supplier or care team.
