Understanding Meningocele: How It Differs from Myelomeningocele
Meningocele is a type of Spina Bifida where a sac of fluid can be seen on a baby’s spine. The difference between this and Myelomeningocele is that the spinal cord and nerves do not protrude into the sac. Even so, this type of Spina Bifida may still cause changes in the person’s abilities.
Some ways abilities may be affected include:
- Mild differences in mobility or strength
- Challenges with coordination or daily activities
- The need for adaptive tools or routines
Early awareness, support, and encouragement help families, caregivers, and educators provide the right guidance. With the proper tools and strategies, people with Meningocele can lead independent, active, and fulfilling lives.
Understanding the difference between Spina Bifida types matters. Knowledge leads to better care, more inclusion, and stronger support for everyone affected.
